3ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Established on 1st June 1984, Goa University is
located in the capital city of the North district
Panaji. Moreover, it a public state university
which provides quality higher education. As a
matter of fact, NAAC accredited the institution
with an A grade. Likewise, it suggests that the
University of Goa is doing well in terms of
strengthening the academic culture in Goa. Above
all, Goa University hails recognition from
reputed national bodies namely, UGC, and ICAI. As
a matter of fact, the main goal of Goa University
is to achieve excellence in teaching and research
for creating better career opportunities for the
students of Goa and neighbouring states. Thus,
the college focuses on the national and regional

5HISTORY
The history of Goa University, as a matter of
fact, dates to the 17th century. As a matter of
fact, the Portuguese Empire established the first
University in Goa. Although, before the formation
of the University of Goa, all the colleges were
affiliated with the Centre of Post Graduate
Instructions and Research (CPIR). Certainly, the
University of Mumbai established CPIR at Panaji
in 1962. Lastly, CPIR converted into the
University of Goa, after formation of a separate
state of Goa.

8COURSES OFFERED
- Bachelors Course
- As a matter of fact, the University of Goa has 16
undergraduate courses across 56 subjects of
specialisation. Further, admission to UG courses
is given on a merit basis. - Masters Courses
- Nonetheless, Goa University offers 32 PG courses
across many streams namely, International
Studies, library science, management, philosophy,
economics, and many more. - PhD./M.Phil Courses
- As a matter of fact, Goa University conducts
admission for PhD courses twice a year. Moreover,
the interested candidates must appear for the
entrance exams PhD Entrance Test (GU-PET).
9INFRASTRUCTURE
Library and Information Centre As a matter of
fact, the Library was established on 30th June
1985. Further , Goa University Library and
Information Centre has a good collection of books
(1,55,000) of multiple streams. Distance
Education, Information and Training
Infrastructure (DEITI) As a matter of fact, the
Distance Education Council (DCE), Ministry of
Education, GOI funds DEITI. Further, DEITI caters
to distance education to the people of Goa
through satellite technology. In other words,
certain districts have the Direct Reception
System (DRS).
10- UNIVERSITY SCIENCE INSTRUMENTATION CENTRE (USIC)
- USIC at Goa University, as a matter of fact, is a
central instrumentation facility. Moreover, the
centre conducts electrical, mechanical, and glass
blowing workshop at regular intervals. - Remote Sensing Laboratory
- As a matter of fact, the Remote Sensing
Laboratory receives financial assistance from the
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Moreover, the lab has 5 computers and certain
software to train the students in remote sensing
and research. - Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium
- Named before the former Union Cabinet Minister,
Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the stadium was
established in 2014. As a matter of fact, the
main idea behind its construction was to conduct
the 3rd edition of the Lusophone Games in India.
In other words, Lusophone Games are a multi-sport
event that represents athletes from Portuguese
speaking nations. As a matter of fact, the
stadium has an overall capacity to seat 4000
students. - Health Centre
- Also, Goa University has a University Health
Centre. Moreover, it is a primary medical care
unit on the University campus for the students
and staff, and their family members. Besides
this, the health centre provides preventive, and
curative services at the primary level. On the
other hand, it examines and treats outpatient
