What is Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic procedure used to
make the abdominal part leaner and more firm. The
procedure involves removal of excess epidermal
skin and adipose collated fat from the
intermediate and lower part of the abdomen. This
process is generally preferred by people who end
up having excess of loose fat and skin post
pregnancy and weight loss regimes. The loose skin
affects their overall appearance in an adverse

What are the steps in the procedure?

• Abdominoplasty is of two types, partial and
  complete Abdominoplasty. Here we will look at the
  steps involved in a complete Abdominoplasty-
• A precise incision is made from the lower abdomen
  to the hip just above the pubic area.
• Another incision is done to release the navel
  from the surrounding skin and fat tissues.
• The skin is detached or removed from the
  abdominal wall and the surrounding sutures and
  muscles are tightened.
• Liposuction is followed to remove excess of fat
  and refine the abdominal appearance.
• Sterilization and dressing procedures are
  followed, along with administration of relevant
  drugs for the best results.

How long does the process take and what are the
side effects and risks involved?
The duration of the procedure varies according to
the type and the extent of the requirement of the
patient. Since, every patient has a different
standing case and requirements according to the
same, the duration varies accordingly. On a
generalized note, the procedure usually takes
anywhere between 1 and 5 hours, depending upon
the nature and extent of the process. Usually, a
Partial Abdominoplasty takes an hour or two to
complete. As far as a Complete Abdominoplasty is
concerned, it can take anything from 3 to 5
hours. The procedure is usually credited to be
risk free in nature but infections and blood
clots are some of the minor potential risk
factors associated, but these very much occur in
rarity.
