Tourism in the state
  • Tourism is one of the important services in
    providing industry in Sikkim State. Its rapid
    development has played an important role in the
    socio-economic development of the region.

Getting There
  • You can fly to Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal
    and reach Sikkim by air. Although there is no
    major railway station in the state, you can also
    take the Siliguri or Jalpaiguri train to reach
    Sikkim by rail. Plus, you can hit the road to get
    to Sikkim.

Permits and entry rules
  • Foreigners must obtain an In-Line Permit (ILP) to
    visit Sikkim. All these can be obtained from the
    Indian Mission, New Delhi, Kolkata, Sikkim
    Tourism Office, Darjeeling, Siliguri, and Rangpo
    at the insistence of the industry visa office.

Tourist places in Sikkim
  • 1. Tsomgo Lake Also known as Changu Lake, it is
    a water body composed of a glacier, located
    12,000 feet above sea level. 2. Gurudongmar Lake
    This is the highest Himalayan lake. In winter,
    this natural lake remains frozen, surrounded by a
    thick layer of white snow and the lakes water
    reflects a dirty blue sky. It is one of the
    popular tourist places in Sikkim in winter. 3.
    Pelling One of the most worth seeing places in
    Gangtok, this small village is peaceful and
    serene. It is a treasure trove of activities,
    sightseeing, and food enrichment to the lips, and
    thus to all kinds of travelers.

Forest and nature-based tourism
  • Nearly half of the state is forested, which
    supports many rare and indigenous species of
    flora and fauna, so it is no surprise that UNESCO
    recently added Sikkims Khangchendzonga National
    Park to great natural and cultural significance
    Recognized as a World Heritage Site.

People and culture
  • Sikkim is a unique blend of different customs,
    religions, and traditions of different
    communities. From ancient times, Sikkim was ruled
    by three tribes, namely, Lepchas, Bhutia, and
    Nepali. They still form groups and cultures in
    Sikkim.
