Reverse Engineering

• RE starts with taking measurements of an existing
  object. The measurements can be taken manually by
  a designer using basic tools such as a Vernier
  callipers or can be done with the help of a 3D
  scanner which gives data in point cloud format.
• A combination of both methods is also required at
  times depending on the complexity of the
  component. Once the designer has the
  measurements, they work on creating a digital
  solid model using CAD softwares. The CAD model is
  then used for manufacturing, rapid prototyping or
  analyzing the product.
