The symptoms of Ankylosing symptoms are initial
intermittent and looks like common problem so
neglected for a long period. Among the common
symptoms of Ankylosing Spondylitis back pain,
buttock pain and joint pain are common one.

• Differentiating back pain of Ankylosing
  Spondylitis is tricky one, it usually worsens
  with rest and improves with exercise, so patient
  back become stiff early morning and improves with
  time. Back pain worsens in mid part of night.
  Patient also have buttock pain which worsens with
  turning in bed/coughing/prolonged sitting.
• Joints which are commonly affected are of lower
  limb that is knee/ankle.other joints like
  wrist/elbow etc. also affected. Other than joints
  sometimes eye also affected which present as red
  painful eye with decreased vision.

• The treatment is tricky and not same for each
  patient. Drugs which are commonly known as pain
  killer and called as NSAIDs in medical term are
  commonly used for back pain and buttock pain
  (called as axial symptoms) of Ankylosing
  Spondylitis.
• Other drugs called as DMARDs which includes
  Sulfasalazine/Methotrexate other also important
  part of treatment.

• Biological DMARDs are important part of treatment
  and requires special mention. These are very
  sophisticated and targeted therapies for
  Ankylosing Spondylitis patients.
• These drugs are very effective in treatment and
  usually used in severe cases which does not
  respond to conventional treatment. Commonly used
  biologicals are Adalimumab/Etanercept/Infliximab
  etc.
