SDG 6 in India
  • India has access to a mere 4 of potable water,
feeding nearly 16 of the world population. It is
estimated that the demand for clean water will
double compared to the resource supply, causing
    severe water scarcity. Therefore, progress
incorporated with strategic plans and practices,
    especially in todays adverse circumstances,
needs to be implemented to create an awareness on
    effective usage of water.

3
  • Immobile places of water, including streams,
tanks, and pipelines generally get contaminated
or polluted because of the convergence of
    urbanization and unplanned utilization. Untreated
wastewater utilized for watering system poses
potential risk to well-being of both consumers
    and irrigators, and wastewater sanitation
concerns need to be satisfactorily attended.

4
  • Government of Indias initiatives like Namami
Gange which dealt with the conservation of River
Ganga, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, National Rural
Drinking Water Programme have hugely contributed
towards water sanitation and cleaning programme.

5
  • Various new missions pertaining to water
conservation and harvesting have been launched in
order to curb down the afflicts of waste water,
drought, dryness and irregular rainfall. New
techniques of surface water harvesting, ground
water harvesting have been adopted by states like
Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, etc. in order to
    pull-off water availability for future.
