CAN THE ANNOYING BUZZ OF A DRONE BE SILENCED?

Description:

It’s fair to say that one of the most exciting and innovative inventions to have come out of the modern era are drones. More and more of them are being bought and flown every single year, and as technology advances, their capabilities seem to know no bounds. With new ways of flying them, ultra HD cameras and batteries with ever increasing lifespans, todays unmanned aerial vehicles are truly incredible. However, some of them (if not most of them), are noisy and that annoying buzz can be hard to ignore; others in the vicinity when they’re being flown might even be driven to register a complaint. So, can anything be done to eliminate or reduce that annoying buzz from the rotors, engines and electronic parts? – PowerPoint PPT presentation

  • Its fair to say that one of the most exciting
and innovative inventions to have come out of the
modern era are drones. More and more of them are
being bought and flown every single year, and as
technology advances, their capabilities seem to
know no bounds. With new ways of flying them,
ultra HD cameras and batteries with ever
    increasing lifespans, todays unmanned aerial
vehicles are truly incredible. However, some of
them (if not most of them), are noisy and that
annoying buzz can be hard to ignore others in
the vicinity when theyre being flown might even
be driven to register a complaint. So, can
anything be done to eliminate or reduce that
annoying buzz from the rotors, engines and
    electronic parts?

  • Silent drones do they exist?
  • The straightforward answer is no, they do not
exist. For as long as drones have moving parts
that keep them in the air, they will always make
a certain amount of noise. The vibrations from
the moving parts will always be audible, however,
many makers are working hard to design and make
drones that are quieter than their predecessors.
  • What are the noise levels of a drone?
  • In flight, a drone registers at around 75 to 80
decibels and a quiet one is usually considered to
be one that registers at 65 to 70 decibels when
flown 3 to five feet from the pilot.

  • Stealth drones used by the military
  • Although most of the details are kept secret by
the military, it is widely believed that they are
using stealth drones which may achieve true
silence or can at least be described as inaudible
when in flight. Whether these will ever be made
available for public use or purchase is anyones
    guess.
  • Why would a silent drone be so useful?
  • Aside from the fact that the noise of a drone in
flight is annoying, it can also drown out all the
sound on a video recording, making them virtually
unusable for audible recordings. Even if you only
want to record a video for visual purposes, the
background noise of the drone will be very
    distracting.

5
  • A silent drone would also be useful when used for
surveillance purposes, since it wouldnt give the
    location away when monitoring someone.
  • Key features of a quiet drone
  • A good, silent or very quiet, drone, needs a
sturdy, thick body that can cover all the
internal features and mechanisms such as the
motor and battery areas that can create a lot
of noise and give less space for the annoying
sounds to be omitted from. Vibrations also need
to be minimised, and this can only be achieved by
a drone with good physical features that dampen
    those vibrations.

6
  • Stores may not be selling fully silent drones
anytime soon, but with the way technology is
advancing, and with more money being invested in
the entire drone industry, it wont be long
before something much quieter is available for
    the general public to buy.
