How do I know if I have Binge Eating Disorder?
2
About Binge Eating Disorder
  • Binge eating disorder is a serious health
problem, but people with binge eating disorder
can get better with treatment. Binge eating
disorder is a type of eating disorder.
  • Eating disorders are mental health problems that
cause extreme and dangerous eating behaviors.
These extreme eating behaviors cause other
serious health problems and sometimes death. Some
eating disorders also involve extreme exercise.
  • People with binge-eating disorder (BED) often
feel ashamed and embarrassed by their eating
issues, and may attempt to conceal their
symptoms. Binge eating usually occurs in secrecy,
or at least as inconspicuously as possible. After
a binge eating episode, people with this disorder
often feel depressed and ashamed of themselves.

3
Symptoms of Binge-Eating Disorder
  • Food is consumed more rapidly
  • Control over the amount of food consumed is lost
  • Feelings of disgust, regret, or guilt are
    experienced after the episode
  • Eating may occur alone due to embarrassment over
    the amount of food consumed
  • Marked distress regarding binge eating is
    present.
  • Alternating between overeating and fasting by
    rarely eating normal meals.
  • Not underweight since men and women with bulimia
    are usually normal weight or
  • slightly overweight. Being underweight while
purging might indicate a purging type of anorexia.
