2Kalyani Bhagat Umrani
In the always evolving and competitive beauty
industry, Kalyani Bhagat Umrani believes ethics
precede knowledge and skills. The prettiest
make-up wont last if the base coat isnt applied
right. Similarly, everything will crumble someday
if not built on ethics, muses Kalyani. Kalyanis
work style wears a clinical approach where she is
more focussed on what is right and necessary for
the client rather than the bucks she could make
out of the deal. Her honesty is what tugs at
impulsive hearts and turns them into lifetime
clients. A multi-tasker, Kalyani delves into not
only hair, beauty, make-up, and spa but also
management and development resulting in building
many women entrepreneurs. Her personal make-up
workshops have the highest conversions in town.
Donning so many hats has also brought out the
taskmaster in her ensuring that the organization
functions smoothly. Trained from Tony and Guy
(Singapore), Kimage Academy (Singapore), One
Academy (Singapore), Kryolan (Germany) along with
a commerce graduation (BMCC, Pune, 1999) and a
scholarship at Goldman Sachs 10K Women
Entrepreneurship Programme help her drive and
manage Impression Hair and Beauty Clinic and
Impression Academy beautifully. An alumnus of
various institutes worldwide, Kalyani also
credits her learning at Alma Mater and
Infinitheism as the backbone of her persona. She
draws inspiration and confidence knowing that her
spiritual guide and mentor Mahatria Ra is
walking with her in silence. Meditation and long
walks keep me rejuvenated to take each day head
on! These small habits are the foundation for
the milestones of her journey so far. Kalyani
graduated from CIDESCO (Switzerland University,
1999), completed BABTAC (London University,
2000), pursued CIDESCO post graduation in
Aromatherapy (2002) and subsequently completed
training in Advance Hairdressing form LOreal
Professional, BlackBerry Worldwide, achieved post
graduation in Spa Management and Development
(Thailand, 2008), added another CIDESCO post
graduation in Spa (2009), studied Salon and Spa
Management and Development Diploma (Thailand,
2009) and completed Airbrush Make-up Course from
Kryolan (Germany, 2009). She started out in the
year 1994, her struggle was such that she had to
clean the tiny parlour room by herself before the
clients stepped in. Owing to her hard work over
the years she has done 10000 makeovers on
brides, models, and celebrities as a Bridal and
Fashion Makeup expert. Her entrepreneurial flight
took off from a small salon setup that her
mother, Mrs. Pushpa Bhagat, owned. From riding a
Luna to country-hopping today for workshops and
as a national representative in competitions,
Kalyani surely has traversed an impressive
graph. Cringing from the culture of paid awards,
Kalyani holds the Inspiring Infinitheist
awarded by her spiritual guru, Mahatria Ra of
Infinitheism, as the most precious one. She is a
staunch believer that success is incremental and
every day. Nothing happens quickly. Everything
takes time, and it is built day by day, Kalyani
speaks experientially. Kalyani has attended
Rotaract International Convention (Singapore and
Malaysia, 2002), World Skills Competition
(Leipzig, Germany, 2013) CIDESCO World Congress
(Wuhan, China, 2014 Athens, Greece, 2015
Dublin, Ireland, 2017). She is a representative
of CII delegation from India at Abu Dhabi World
Skills (2017), Skilling India Mission (Beauty and
Wellness Sector Skill Council since 2015 as
National Jury for India Skills), and is also a
part of syllabus designing, moderation,
finalizing QPs for Beauty Therapy Course. As a
ravenous learner, Kalyani chooses horizontal
expertise over vertical. Expertise in various
fields keeps me on my toes to take the next big
leap at any given moment! While inculcating new
developments in her industry, Kalyanis main goal
is to create ethical students. There is no
sacred oath in our industry. Hence, the dire need
of ethical people. Thats the only way our field
will earn the deserved respect, concludes
Kalyani.

4How to Choose Best beautician course.
- 1) Always look for a academy which is experienced
in teaching field for more than 10 to 15 years
minimum. 20 to 25 years of experience would be
best. - 2) Check whether its a self owned academy or
its just a franchised one. If its self owned
then look for whether there are experienced group
of teachers or everything is left to the group of
trainers which generally keep changing. - 3) Check whether trainers are experienced or they
are just the students from recent past batch are
employed as teachers for next batch in same
academy.
- 4) Dont just look for academy near your house or
office or college as convenience. Sometimes you
end up choosing wrong place. Look for good
facility at the academy. Huge place for practice,
proper equipment, proper lighting, proper
infrastructure, recreation area for students,
locker facility, lecture rooms, rest room
facility, pantry, library, parking facility,
convenient public transport, etc REMEMBER Don
t just visit a salon near your area and never
join the class because you like that salon OR
you like the owner OR you know the owner OR You
are convinced with just talking to the councilor.
ASK FOR Proper printed syllabus, check for what
all quality products they provide for students
practice. Check for space allotted for students
practices. A TYPICAL SALON SET UP WILL NEVER HAVE
A PROPER AREA FOR STUDENTS PRACTICES. - Check before joining your beautician course or
make-up artistry course that you get to see a
proper printed syllabus. Ask for a copy of that
specific module. - Compare the syllabus, fees, products given for
practice with few more institutes who offer
beautician courses, hairdressing courses or
make-up artistry diploma. - Remember Dont get attracted to big names given
to a small course which has no content. There are
many beauty institutes or makeup institutes which
title their courses as Passport course or
Passport diploma or International beauty course
or International make-up course or International
Hairdressing course. But get a REALITY CHECK if
they really update you or train you on
international level curriculum. - There are very few good institutes or best
institutes which offer real-time International
degree courses. To name a few Cidesco City
Guilds/ BABTAC/ CIBTAC etc.. - Check for If the institute is offering any kit
or products to the students, check it in detail.
Check the quality and quantity. Many academies
offer small kits to attract students . Once the
small quantity is over students have to buy their
own products. Check for quality of products,
laundry and good quality of study material. They
are very important to make a great career in
beauty therapy or hairdressing. - Expert Faculty Many good institutes invite
Doctors, guest lecturers for helping students
expand their growth horizons. Good beautician
institutes have doctors on board to teach Anatomy
Physiology of body for their students. - Cidesco diploma students should be exposed to
various expert faculties related to the topics.
For eg Photography, special effects in lighting
and photography, digital marketing, cosmetology
etc. - VISIT AS MANY INSTITUTES AS YOU CAN Collect lot
of data about same course from various beauty
institutes, makeup academies/ make up school,
hair dressing academies. - COMPARE, COMPARE, COMPARE.
- Compare not to judge but to take a right
decision.
