2Five Dimensions of Interaction Designs
- In our daily life, while interacting with
different people, we find out the best ways to
communicate in order to maintain a symbiotic
relationship. The same concept is applicable when
businesses use websites or applications to
interact with their customers.
3Different interactive elements flash on screens
like icons, logos, illustrations, images, codes,
etc. These interactive elements facilitate user
to navigate to the desired location or to perform
a specific task. So, the created digital
interactive interface offers a fulfilling
experience to the users. An immaculate
amalgamation of these interactive elements is
termed as an Interaction Design.
4What is Interaction Design
Basically, Interaction Design refers to an
intricate system of elements which facilitate
effective communication between product and users
so that the users can leverage the products to
the fullest. Here, the product can be any system,
app or website. Different people have a different
approach to technology and communication. Thus, a
single set of interaction design cant be
applicable all around the globe.
5For example A 70-year-old man who previously
used a keypad phone will find it difficult to
perform even the simplest task like making a call
with his new smartphone. He would prefer his
previous phone over a smartphone as he can
communicate effectively through the
former.
6The above example illustrates one of the basic
principles of interactive designing, viz.
Interaction Designs should be simple and easier
to understand. A product must be able to
communicate with users just like a person
communicates with another person.
7Five Dimensions of Interaction Design The
experts of interaction design have put forth five
dimensions of interaction design. These are
mentioned below
8Words
Words are powerful and can be used to effectively
communicate a message. This dimension defines the
nature of the users interaction. The interaction
designer must ensure to use lucid and easily
understandable words for the users to
comprehend.
9Visual Preparation
This includes visual elements like icons, logos,
illustrations, images, typography, etc. These
enhance the understanding of users and makes
communication faster as well as easier between
the user and the product.
10Physical Objects and Space
It refers to the system or an object through
which users interact with the product. For
example, computer, desktop, mouse, keyboard,
laptop, etc. It also refers to the environment
where the users are interacting with the product.
Like an office desk, a park or a crowded street.
11Time
This includes the time a user spends on
multimedia elements such as videos, sound,
animation, etc. The interaction design should be
such that users must be able to track their
progress and resume the interaction sometime
later.
12Behavior
This refers to the reaction of the user to
different interfaces or different interactive
elements. This includes user behavior, how the
user operates the product and the response or
feedback of the users.
13Interaction Design is imperative to create a
fulfilling user experience. It is a part of user
experience design which ensures optimal
interaction between the user and product.
