1HOW IS FAST FASHION AFFECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
2Fast fashions the process of clothes moving from
runways to consumers closet. And also to the
dustbin at the speed of light
3In the last 2 decades, the amount of apparel
purchased by consumers has multiplied by 5 times.
4Air pollutions caused due to the by-product of
CO2 emission from transportation and the use of
large machinery.
5The clothing thats disposed into the junkyard is
at times made from synthetic fabric which doesnt
degrade well.
6Child labor is common in such chains. Countries
like Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkey, Argentina,
India, Vietnam, China etc, were found using child
labor.
7The number of litres of drinking water a person
consumes in 2.5 years i.e. approximately 3,000
litres is used to manufacture 1 cotton shirt.
8Workers are prone to average to poor dangerous
working atmosphere with long working hours and
are paid less.
9Workers need to be paid thrice more than what
theyre paid just to meet their basic needs and
survival necessities.
10Every minute, 60 garbage trucks of clothes are
burnt or land-filled which stays for as long as 2
centuries.
11Fabrics when washed release close to a million
tonnes of microfibers into the water bodies every
year.
12Dyes are known to be one of the largest water
pollutants.
13The amount of greenhouse gas thats produced to
manufacture one pair of jeans is equivalent to
that needed to drive a car for 80 plus miles.
14In the next 3 decades, the fashion industrys
expected to use up close to a quarter of the
worlds carbon budget.
15Retailers have been using designers designs for
bulk production without their permission. Thus,
violating rules on intellectual property grounds.
16Some of the fast-fashion retailers are Zara, Gap,
HM and Forever 21.
