In Canada, drunk drivers can be charged with
impaired driving or driving over 80. If
convicted, you can get jail time along with other
sentences such as fines and license suspension.

The minimum punishment for DUI offences was
amended in 2008. Whether the offender gets jail
time or not depends on the circumstances. A
second DUI offence can lead to a 30-days jail
sentence. Each subsequent conviction will result
in jail time of at least 120 days. The maximum
sentence for a summary conviction is 18 months.

- It depends whether the accused has committed the
crime for the first, second or third time. The
minimum sentences are - For a first offence, a 1000 fine and a 12-month
driving prohibition, - For a second offence, 30 days of jail and a
24-month driving prohibition - For a third or subsequent offence, 120 days of
jail and a 36-month driving prohibition
