Title: How does Avastin Work on Tumors?
1How does Avastin Work on Tumors?
2Avastin or Bevacizumab is an anti-angiogenic
therapy that blocks the production of a protein
called the vascular endothelial growth factor, or
VEGF. Normal cells produce VEGF, but there are
some cancer cells that make too much VEGF.
Therefore, blocking the production of VEGF might
prevent the development of new blood vessels,
including the normal blood vessels and blood
vessels that feed tumors.
3 Chemotherapy attacks the cancer cells, but
Avastin or Bevacizumab blocks the blood supply
that feeds the tumor or the cancer cells. And
this can eventually stop the tumor from growing
further.
4Role of Avastin
5 Tumor before the Treatment The new blood
vessels serve and feed the tumor which helps it
to grow and spread.
6 Tumor with Avastin and Chemotherapy Avastin
stops the blood supply from reaching the cancer
cells, making the tumor to starve.
7 However, there are some possible Bevacizumab
side effects as each one of us react differently
to Avastin therapy. High blood pressure, kidney
problems, heart problems, vision problems,
serious bleeding, hole in stomach or intestine
are some of the Bevacizumab side effects that
require instant attention from your medical
provider. So if you have any questions about your
treatment or condition, or in case you experience
any side effects, you should talk to your doctor
right away.
