Title: Exothermic Welding Manual
1Exothermic Welding Manual
- Exothermic Welding is the most preferable
technique of welding two dissimilar metals. An
electrical failure or more appropriately a joint
failure reflects the high losses sustained in the
whole electronic assembly of equipment. Sometimes
it does not appear shady just for the performance
of expensive equipments but for human life as
well.

3Exothermic welding procedure is a put in to make
permanent, reliable and safe connections/joints
for an electrical installation. It is responsible
for testing and assuring that ancillaries ensure
prompt connections between two or more employed
conductors. The process takes place for the
connections of copper to copper or copper to
steel for which no external heat or any kind of
force is required. In the process, a weld
material, welding connection, graphite mould
selection etc. All should be densely computed.
4Procedure Listed
- Wear safety glasses and gloves while working with
welding products. - Assemble all the necessities and equipments for
the connection to be obtained. The typical
welding (JAMWELD) kit includes moulds, mould
handle clamp, exothermic welding powder and disc. - Remove bracket holding the mold.
- Accelerate the clamp into pre-drilled holes with
a standard coordination for thumbscrews.
5Procedure Listed
- Toughen the clamp thumbscrews by tightening it on
the mold. - Wind-up grips and lock the mold and review the
seal to it. - Employ ignition and dry the inside surface of the
mold thoroughly on both sides. After then, heat
it to approximately 120 degree of Celsius. - Clean all the conductors, set a dry platform and
place the conductors into the opened mold after
cleaning the remaining residue. - Engage a wire brush to brace the surface of
conductors from oxidation.
6Procedure Listed
- Implant conductors position them for connection
and close the mold. - Properly place the disc to the appropriate space
of the mold. - Ensure that the steel disc must be properly
installed into the mold. - Pour the welding powder after escaping the lid
with the settlement of exothermic welding flux. - Pour a portion (1/4- 1/3) of the starting
material over the employed welding material in
the mold crucible.
7Procedure Listed
- End it and pour the remaining (¾ to 2/3) of that
into the slot of the mold cover. - Close the cover and ignite the material on the
lid of the mold. - Open the mold, take out the conductor after
removing connection and clean it for next time. - Remove the conductor after completing the JAMWELD
connection.
