What is Celiac Disease?
  • Firstly let us understand what is Gluten?
  • Gluten is a protein found in rye, barley or
    wheat. Gluten helps foods maintain their shape,
    acting as a glue that holds food together.
  • The celiac condition is the one where gluten
    consumption may cause damage to the small
    intestine
  • The reaction caused against gluten causes
    inflammation of the small intestine. The damage
    caused to the small intestine also lead to

    prevalent in north India population, where wheat
    is primarily grown and forms the staple cereal.

Care for Celiac Disease
  • Celiac patients need to take special care while
    planning their diet.
  • They should carefully read the labels of all the
    products.
  • They should only buy products which are Gluten
    free.
  • They should avoid eating grains, pasta, cereals,
    and processed foods as these may contain
    gluten-containing grains like rye, barley or
    wheat
  • They should keep a list of natural gluten-free
    products handy with them.
