• Considerations before repair
• Even a minor tear can pose risk of
  spillage, enlargement or snag and has to be
  repaired at the scheduled downtime. It can be
  hazardous if there is an edge fray or cover
  scoring. Rips can lead to loss of strength. The
  load on the damaged area is transferred to the
  adjacent belt section. If the rip is large then
  the balance of the belt is compromised leading to
  failure of the belt.

• Replacement an option
• The size of the belt plays a vital role in
  repair decisions. Replacements are considered
  when there is availability of spare belt. The
  smaller the belt the quicker the replacement time
  when compared to repairs. Incase of
  unavailability of spare belt, consider the time
  span to locate the spare and repair. If the
  option is viable opt for repair instead of
  replacement. Belt replacement can be considered
  if there is major rips and tear.
