Lube Filter - PowerPoint PPT Presentation

About This Presentation
Title:

Lube Filter

Description:

Where all of the oil pump output is filtered before going to the engine. Fleetguard filters have some of the most advanced full-flow oil filters in the industry, with both cellulose and synthetic filter media and covering all brands of engines. A standard full-flow oil filter cannot remove all of the harmful contaminants and still provide adequate filter life. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

The Importance of Lube Filtration
Without Lube Oil, any engine would rapidly stop
working. Lube oil not only allows the internal
components of an engine to move by keeping the
various parts separate from each other, it also
carries out a number of other very critical
tasks.
  • Lubrication of all moving parts to reduce
    friction and wear.
  • Cooling The job of oil is to absorb the heat
    produced by engine.
  • Cleaning Transport additives like Detergents,
Dispersants for cleaning, picking up the foreign
    particles formed during combustion.
  • Sealing Seals combustion chamber from crankcase
by forming a film between piston rings and liner
    walls.

Types of Contaminants
  • 1. Self ingested contaminants
  • 2. Externally ingested contaminants
  • Contaminants sources
  • Organic -75
  • Inorganic 25

Contaminations
  • It might give the idea this is a "close circle'
framework, where a settled amount of oil is
pumped around a similar circuit and ought to be
generally simple to keep clean. Though the
ignition procedure, where the fuel and air blend
is burned to produce power, makes a break in this
    circle. Combustion unavoidably creates various
    contaminants which contaminate the oil.
  • This pollution could be made out of
  • Carbon
  • Partially burned fuel
  • Acids
  • Water
  • Varnish, Lacquers

Contaminations
  • Another aspect contributing to oil degrading is
Time. With time Oil gets contaminated and
    doesnt perform its intended function.
  • Oil physically break in parts - Oils consists
of nothing but Hydrocarbons , with time the
    linkages between hydrocarbons breaK down.
  • System problem
  • Ineffective cooling of lube oil
  • Leakage through oil cooler
  • Overheating of engine causing head gasket
  • Blow off (coolant mix-up with oil)

Techniques of Filtration
  • 1. Full flow filtration Where all of the oil
pump output is filtered before going to the
    engine.
  • 2. Bypass filtration Where a proportion of the
oil flow is filtered to a considerably better
degree than in a Full Flow System, before
travelling back in to the oil sump.
  • 3. Combination filtration where both full flow
and bypass technologies are utilized in the filter
