• A wire refers to a metal which is made in the
  form of the thin flexible thread whereas a cable
  refers to a thick rope of wire covered with an
  insulator. There are a large number of wire and
  cable manufacturers available across India who
  are manufacturing these wires and cables in bulk.

Wire and Cable Manufacturing Process

• Conductor A conductor involves 3 steps,
  these 3 are
• Wire drawing The first and the basic step in the
  wire and cable manufacturing is reducing the
  diameter of the wire into its final diameter. The
  conductor usually comes in large coils. Then the
  wire is melted to reduce the diameter to 2 mm.
  This 2 mm wire is then drawn to the desired size
  for which the wire is to be made.
• Annealing Once the wire drawing is successfully
  done, the wire is treated under high temperature
  to increase the ductility and conductivity of the
  wire.
• Stranding After the process of annealing, the
  next step is the stranding the XLPE Power Cable
  Manufacturers are grouped together to form a
  conductor by making the different cross section.

• Insulation This is the next step that is
  involved the manufacturing of the electrical
  cables. In this process, an insulated cover is
  applied over the conductor to prevent the current
  leakage. This insulating material is applied for
  extrusion of high temperature. Some of the
  insulating material are PVC, EPR, XLPE etc. the
  thickness of the insulator defines the voltage
  capacity of the cable.
• Laying up In this process, the group of the
  different insulated conductor is used to make a
  multicore cable.
• Additional coverings In some of the cases, the
  cable may require an additional coverage for the
  improved protection for the purpose armour is
  used to protect the cable from external damage.
• Outer sheath It usually has an over polymer
  cover covering which is called outer sheath.

Types of Wire And Cable that are Manufactured -

• Coaxial Cable - These cables are basically used
  for the frequency signals, for example,
  communication cable, direct buried cable.

• Metallic Sheathed Cable
• Multicolor Cable These cables usually consists
  of more than one wire and is usually covered with
  a cable jacket.
• Paired Cable The paired cables are basically
  made up by using two insulated conductors that
  has an application in low-frequency AC
  applications.
• Ribbon Cable This cable is usually used when
  more than one wire is required.
• Shielded Cable This is basically used for the
  sensitive electronic circuits
• Twin Cable This type of cable is made up of flat
  two-wire line.
