Welcome to Nuremberg! This is the second largest
city in Bavaria after Munich. It is also the 14th
largest city in Germany. Nuremberg is known for
its role during National Socialism. Its central
location in Germany as well as its link to the
Holy Roman Empire made it the ideal site for the
Nazi party rallies. At the same time, Nurembergs
deep culture, history, and art make it the ideal
place for a walking tour of the Old Town. Below
are some of the great places youll visit during
your Nuremberg Walking Tour of the Old Town.
3
Nassauer Haus The Nassauer Haus is a medieval
tower built from red Burgsandstein. It was
originally a Roman style building and has
retained some of its features to date. In1945,
the tower was bombed by the Americans during the
war and suffered extensive damage. However,
reconstruction work done in 1950-52 restored it
to its present state. Chapel of Our Lady The
Frauenkirche (Chapel of Our Lady) is a Gothic
brick architecture that is basically a hall
church with an Emperors tribune and two aisles.
It is located on the main markets eastern side.
The church has several sculptures some of which
have had to go through a lot of restoration. The
Frauenkirche also houses several Medieval art
works including the two sculptures by Adam Kraft
as well as the famous TucherAltarand.

Beautiful Fountain The Beautiful Fountain is a
magnificent work of art and history located in
the main market. Built in the 14th century, the
masterpiece is 19 meters high and is shaped like
a gothic spire. It has 40 figurines which
represent the Holy Roman Empires world view. The
fence around the Beautiful Fountain has two
embedded brass rings placed on opposite sides of
each other. It is believed that turning the rings
three times brings you good luck. The Kettensteg
(Chain Bridge) crosses the Pegnitz River and is
in front of the Schlayerturm. This pedestrian
bridge was built in 1824 making it Europes
oldest free-hanging suspension bridge. After
extensive reconstruction to make it safe, the
Kettensteg was reopened in December of 2010 for
pedestrians use. Youllhave a chance to visit the
Kettenstegas part of your Nuremberg Walking Tour
of the Old Town.
