OLIVE SAFETY VDU- (video terminal, video display
terminal, VDT, display terminal) is a device
fusing a cathode ray tube (CRT) display, a
keyboard, and a serial port. A VDU usually also
holds its own display electronics which cache the
received information and convert it into
electrical waveforms to drive the CRT.
Early VDUs could only display characters in a
single preset font, and these were
confined to being laid out in a rectangular grid,
reproducing the functionality of the paper-based
teletypes they were designed to replace, And
later these models combined graphics facilities
but were still pushed via following
communications, typically with
several VDUs attached to a single and multi-user
computer.
This VDU (Visual Display Units) Assessor course
which will provide delegates with the knowledge
and skills necessary to carry out a complete and
accurate VDU assessment of all workstations in
the workplace After completing the trainee will
be able to assess the environment that an
individual will work in. After completing will
able to assess the seating, screens, lighting,
and storage. There are many institutions which
provide VDU Assessor training in Dublin. The
average duration for this is 4 hrs. Always give
preference to the affiliated institutions which
provides a valid certificate of min 3 years of
validity.

VDUs fall into two categories
Dumb terminals and intelligent terminals
(sometimes called programmable terminals). The
main purpose of the VDU assessment is to
distinguish and consequently reduce the quantity
of pressure put on the body and reduce visual and
musculoskeletal stress and injury. This VDU also
applies to every employees' workstations,
offices, etc. The law states that the workstation
should be assessed and where necessary modified
to fit the worker, where an employee is meeting
at a desk and working on a computer. The term
used is ergonomics, and the method is termed a
VDU assessment (visual display unit, IE, laptop,
computer, etc). Visual display units (VDUs) have
been continued to cause such eye difficulties as
eyestrain, visual discomfort, and visual fatigue.
In addition, there are effects on visual
accommodation as well as effects results from
contrast and glare sensitivity. This compilation
brings collectively in one place the widely
scattered research on the impacts of VDUs on the
eyes. Visual display unit (VDU) tasks are diverse
and now in a large range of jobs with different
demands regarding the level of skills and
experience (from journalists, financial
administrators and so one to call centers and
data processing workers). Based on the data of
the 5th European Working Conditions Survey it can
be clearly demonstrated that the number of
workers that are using computers is increasing.
