Using CBD for Pain

Description:

CBD can help treat chronic pain, muscle pain or pain caused by arthritis, multiple sclerosis, cancer or spinal cord injuries. In one study, researchers found that CBD significantly decreased inflammation and pain in arthritic rats. Since CBD oils don’t have any psychoactive properties, it can be a safer option for some patients. The presentation will let you know more about use of CBD for pain – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Title: Using CBD for Pain

1
Using CBD for Pain
2
WHAT IS CBD OIL?
CBD (Cannabidiol) oil is a potent cannabis
extract that has a variety of medical uses. CBD
oils typically contain little amounts or no THC,
they do not make the patient feel high. Since
CBD oils dont have any psychoactive properties,
it can be a safer option for some patients.
3
How Do You Use CBD Oil?
There are a couple of ways a patient can consume
CBD Oil. Orally When you purchase CBD from a
licensed producer (LP), it will usually come as a
tincture in a dropper bottle. Using the dropper,
the patient can drop the amount recommended by
their doctor underneath their tongue. Oil
capsules CBD oil can be inserted into capsules
and taken orally. Sprays Some doctors may
recommend CBD oil products that can be sprayed
into the mouth and absorbed into the body.
4
Using Cannabis to Treat Lower Back Pain
The therapeutic nature of CBD (cannabidiol) help
naturally exert benefits like relief of
inflammation, discomfort and restlessness caused
by lower back pain. Medical marijuana has been
known to reduce pain, preventing the need for
harmful opioids.
5
Typical Lower Back Pain Treatments
They mostly involve a combination of rest and
lower back exercises Rest will provide time for
injured or inflamed muscles and tissues to heal,
while exercises can work to strengthen the
muscles again. Additionally heat or ice packs
can simultaneously reduce pain and inflammation
respectively. Finally, this process can be aided
with the help of over-the-counter drugs like
acetaminophen to reduce inflammation.
6
Using Cannabis for Osteoarthritis Pain
Studies have shown medical marijuana has been
able to increase the activity of the cannabinoid
receptor CB2 that is reduced by OA, helping
reverse the effects of inflammation and therefore
reducing pain and improving movement. The
natural compounds in medical marijuana make it a
part of an overall Osteoarthritis and Arthritis
treatment while helping downsize the potential
for harmful side effects.
7
Typical Osteoarthritis Treatments
Osteoarthritis symptoms typically only involve
the joints, with common areas of stiffness and
pain being the hands, spine, knees and
hips. While symptoms may progress quickly for
some, the joint damage and pain caused by OA
builds gradually over a period of years and the
cause is always due to joint stress. This may
be a result of a previously sustained
injury, abnormal growth or genetic heredity.
8
Symptoms of OA
Hand pain Enlarged fingers, knobs on joints and
stiff, aching pain makes tasks like opening
jars difficult Spine pain Localized pain in the
neck or lower back can inhibit activities like
walking and moving about and may even affect
bladder control Knee pain Swelling and pain may
affect the ability to climb stairs, take
baths/showers or sit down/stand up from
furniture Hip pain Stiff hips, groin or thigh
pain can inhibit the range of motion needed to
dress or tie shoes
9
How CBD Works for Pain
CBD interacts with both your immune system and
your brain receptors. These receptors receive a
bunch of chemical signals from stimuli and help
the rest of your cells respond to those signals.
When your receptors react with CBD, they form
anti-inflammatory effects that reduce pain.
