Effective Way to Test the Battery of your Car

Description:

The battery is the main source of power in the car and supplies the current to all the electric components. So, always test the condition of the battery like the charge, output voltage and the level of fluid in it. Title: Effective Way to Test the Battery of your Car

1
Effective Way to Test the Battery of your Car
2
The battery is an electromechanical component of
your car which is generally supply the electrical
power needed by your car.
3
Your car can generate power through its several
components, but the engine is completely
dependent on the battery.
4
If the battery of your car has any types of
problem then it will affect many devices in your
car because those devices depend on the battery.
5
It's your duty is to test the battery of your
car regularly and maintaining it for enhancing
its life and improve the performance.
6
Here the below points helps you to test the
battery of your car adequately-
7
Test it safely
8
Handling the battery of your car can be a
hazardous process because it contains sulfuric
acid for operating the chemical inside them.
9
So for testing the battery of your car, it's very
important to wear the protective gloves, clothing
and a safety goggle.
10
In this way, you can protect your body from the
electrical hazards because it may possibly create
injuries in your body while testing the battery.
11
Disconnect the battery
12
To test the battery of your car, arm yourself
with a voltmeter and set the dials on the 0-50
volt range.
13
Then disconnect the battery from the car by
following the instructions given in your cars
owner's manual.
14
For doing it you need to attach a 9V alkaline
battery to the car PCM. Otherwise, it will lose
its programmed settings.
15
Connect the battery terminal with a voltmeter
16
First, set the voltmeter to DC and connect the
positive red lead of the voltmeter to the
positive battery terminal of the car.
17
Then connect the black lead of the voltmeter to
the negative battery terminal of the car. After
that check the voltage level.
18
If the range is 12.6 to 12.8, then the battery
is adequately charged. Below that range means the
battery is not charging. Then you needs to check
the alternator.
19
Test the voltage output without load
20
After following the above-mentioned procedures,
reconnect the battery and start the car. Make
sure that you will put it in idle mode.
21
Then check the voltage reading of the battery
terminal between the same points again.
22
If it is placed around 10V, then the battery is
in good condition. Below 10V means either the
battery needs charging or other issues cause
voltage decline.
23
Check the battery fluid
24
The next phase is to check the fluid level in the
battery. For doing it, you need to disconnect the
battery again.
25
First open up the battery cover and peep them
into the compartments of the cells inside to
measure the fluid level.
26
Generally, the electrode plates are submerged in
the electrolytic fluid. If they are not, then add
distilled water to the cell compartment up to the
fluid level.
