- This Early Child Care Education provides students
with the knowledge and skills necessary to
effectively work with infant, toddler, preschool
and school-aged children. Through participation
in this early childhood education training
students will gain an understanding of the
personal development, social development and
health and safety needs associated with children
in the early years.
- Students will be prepared to provide support,
encouragement and self esteem to children as they
develop. In addition, through a practicum
placement students will benefit from hands on
experience in a childcare facility where they
will have the opportunity to apply the theories
and concepts of child development that they have
learned throughout our course.
3Description
- Students participating in this program will
explore the historical roots of child care, child
growth and development. - Students will gain an understanding of how to
create an environment based on children's
interests and learning needs that that will
contribute significantly to a child's
development. Through study and practical
application, students will experience the
difference that an Early Childhood education
course can make in the lives of young children
and their families.

Upon successful completion of this course student
will be able to
- Understand the physical, emotional and
intellectual development of children - Maintain a professional approach while observing
and guiding children - Communicate effectively with parents, children
and co-workers - Enhance children's self esteem through
participation in activities - Promote and encourage socialization and
co-operation amongst children - Understand Health and Safety issues to be
considered with children
- Assist in meal time planning and be aware of
children's nutritional information - Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play
periods - Lead children in activities, including
storytelling, crafts and songs - Guide and assist children in developing proper
eating, dressing and toilet habits - Discuss progress and problems with children at
staff meetings - Maintain day care equipment and assist in
housekeeping duties
