Title: Rebar Detailing Service

1
Types of Rebar Detailing
2
9 - Types of Rebar Detailing Services
  • Rebar is a short word commonly used in
    construction meaning Reinforcing Bar. Concrete
alone can withstand compression forces but it
cannot withstand tension forces. So, rebar which
is a type of reinforced material is used in place
of concrete. More commonly used reinforcing
material is steel. However, other materials like
aluminium can also be used for reinforcement.
Based on the specification, use, and application,
rebar can be classified as follows
  • Carbon Steel Rebar
  • Welded Wire Fabric Rebar
  • Sheet-Metal Rebar
  • Epoxy-coated Rebar
  • European Rebar
  • Stainless Steel Rebar
  • Galvanized Rebar
  • Expanded Metal/Wire Mesh Rebar
  • Glass-Fiber-Reinforced-Polymer Rebar

3
Carbon Steel Rebar
  • Also known as Black Bar, this type of rebar is
most common of its types. The advantage of carbon
steel rebar is its versatility. For the
structures that are constantly exposed to
humidity or water, this type of rebar cannot be
used as it gets corroded easily. Apart from this
usage, carbon steel rebars are considered to be
    the best option.

4
Welded Wire Fabric Rebar
  • A series of steel wires are welded together at
right angles to form welded wire fabric rebar.
They are welded electrically at the wire
crossings. The welded wire fabric is also called
WWF. This rebar is used in walls, and floor slabs
where the ground is compacted. Such rebars are
widely used for road pavement, box culverts,
    concrete canals, and drainage structures.

5
Sheet-Metal Rebar
  • This type of rebar is made from sheets of steel.
Firstly, the steel pieces are heated and then
allowed to cool down to prepare a sheet. The
sheet is bent into corrugations with holes
punched at regular intervals. It is used for
    floor slabs, roof, and stairs.

6
Epoxy-coated Rebar
  • Epoxy is a type of material, a polymer that is
used as a coating. This coating prevents
corrosion of the rebar. Hence, it is also very
expensive to use this type of rebar. An
epoxy-coated rebar is used in areas that require
corrosion resistance from salt water. The coating
is generally very thin, and hence it must be
    purchased from an authenticated supplier.

7
European Rebar
  • Europen rebar is a cost-effective alternative to
other rebar types. However, it cannot be used for
areas that are prone to bad weather conditions
    like earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, etc.

8
Stainless Steel Rebar
  • Stainless steel rebar is a good alternative to
carbon steel rebar. It is galvanic resistant and
hence used extensively in corrosion prone areas
or where the repair work cannot be done time and
again. However, it costs as much as eight times
    more than epoxy-coated rebar.

9
Galvanized Rebar
  • Galvanized rebar are specifically used for highly
corrosive areas. It provides 40 times more
protection than carbon steel rebar. However, they
are one of the costliest rebar types.

10
Expanded Metal/Wire Mesh Rebar
  • Expanded metal rebar is made by shearing a sheet
of steel into parallel lines. This is then
expanded to form a diamond shape or square shape.
It is commonly used in areas where a considerable
thickness of plaster is required. Wire mesh is
used for sidewalks, small concrete pads or
    walkable surfaces.

11
Glass-Fiber-Reinforced-Polymer Rebar
  • GFRP rebars will never ever corrode under any
circumstances. Against this, it is also very
costly. It costs as much as 10 times the
    epoxy-coated rebars.
