Valuable Information About Glass Balustrades

Description:

Balustrades are those structures used to support the handrails found on balconies and stairways. Various materials can be used in the construction of a balustrade such as wood, stone, metal, and glass. In this presentation, we are sharing some important information about glass balustrades. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Valuable Information About Glass Balustrades
2
Balustrades are generally made using different
materials. Some of the materials that have been
used in making these structures include concrete,
metal, and wood. These materials are mostly used
because they offer quality and can also be used
for decoration. However, one of the most
important materials that have been in use for a
long time is glass.
3
Balusters might be incorporated into a structure
to offer stylish appeal and functionality. In
some cases, the balusters may offer more
functionality than beauty. In the latter case,
the structures are referred to as auxiliary
balustrade. Names such as frame less balustrades
and cantilevered balustrades have been used. Two
fundamental designing principles may apply in
making frame less balustrades.
4
The first thought is to install a strong base
that is fit for clamping thick and tough glass
boards. These panels are made thick and strong so
that they can provide protection from loads that
are imposed on them. The second engineering
principle is to consolidate handrails on the
balustrades. However, it is the choice of the
homeowners to install a handrail or not.
5
To make the balusters, handrails are put on the
top of the glass used. The function of the
handrail is to join glasses together on the top
side. This offers more strength to the entire
structure. The handrail is also installed to
ensure that the structure is yet ready to stay
standing and function properly. In the case,
where one chooses not to have handrails
installed, at that point laminated glass should
be used.
6
The base of the balustrade is usually the most
essential part of the entire structure. It must
be designed precisely. Bases are generally made
into a U-shaped channel made from aluminum
extrusions or two RSAs back to back. The
installation of glass into the base is done using
cement-type material or epoxy. In recent models,
the use of cement or epoxy as glue has been
replaced by better technology.
7
In the place of epoxy and cement, it is now
possible to use hammered-in wedges or
pressure-screwed clamps. This new technology
saves a ton on labor, making it a less expensive
option. This process is easy as compared to the
process of pouring epoxy inside little channels.
Base profile can be settled onto the balcony
through different strategies, including the use
of cement and steel.
8
Glass panels which are used as a part of these
structures usually have a thickness of 15 mm.
Glasses used are toughened to increase quality.
This is a requirement for residential
application. However, if the panels are used in
public places such as restaurants, bars, malls,
and discotheques where the load is assumed to be
higher, at that point the panels should be
thicker.
