Gypsum Powder and Its Manufacturers

What is Gypsum Powder?
  • Gypsum Powders is a common word for Calcium
    Sulphate Dihydrate/ Hydrous Calcium Sulphate.
Gypsum stones are heated in order to convert them
to powder. This gypsum powder is normally a white
and smooth powder and is used in various
    industries.

Where are Gypsum Powder put in use?
  • Fertilizers Gypsum powder is widely being used
to make fertilizers. Fertilizers based on Gypsum
powder helps the hard subsoil or the upper layer
of soil in the garden to loosen up. Apart from
it, the Gypsum powder-based fertilizers helps to
improve the composition of soil, prevents soil
erosion, water runoff and facilitates water and
    air movement.
  • Drywalls Drywalls are always made with gypsum
powder. This gypsum powder is converted to
plaster of Paris by evaporating the most of its
water content and carbon dioxide. This plaster of
Paris is poured between two thick sheets and made
flattened and left out in the Sun to dry. This
will ultimately form the drywall, you want. The
main features of drywall are that it is fire
    resistant, provides sound insulation, thermal
    resistant and easy to repair.

  • Tofu Gypsum powder plays a vital role in the
production of Tofu. In fact without the help of
gypsum powder, Tofu cant be produced. The gypsum
powder here is uses as a coagulant. In easy word,
it helps the liquid to thicken up. Gypsum powder
is added to soy milk and pressed into blocks of
Tofu. Different types of Tofu like soft tofu,
rich kinugoshi, sweetened kinugoshi tofu and
modified kinugoshi can be made using gypsum
    powder.

5
What is the Chemical Composition of Gypsum
Powder?
  • There are various chemical components that adds
up to form gypsum powder. The components along
with their percentage of contribution are listed
    below.
  • Calcium 23.28
  • Hydrogen 2.34
  • Sulphur 18.62
  • Oxygen 55.76

Types of Gypsum Powder
  • There are basically two types of Gypsum Powder.
    They are mentioned below.
  • Natural Gypsum Powder This naturally occurring
gypsum powder is basically found in the
sedimentary rock and is available in over 85
countries. United States, Canada and Mexico are
considered to have the largest reserve for
quality gypsum powder. Around 21 pounds of
chemically combined water is found in 100 pounds
    of gypsum rock.
  • Flue-Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Gypsum Powder
This is a by-product of desulfurization of flue
gas that is obtained from the stacks of power
plants using fossil fuel. The emissions which are
captured from the smoke stacks can be turned into
gypsum by purifying it to a hard substance.
Gypsum Powder manufacturers usually go for this
    FGD gypsum.

Physical Properties of Gypsum Powder
  • The colour of gypsum powder is usually white but
sometimes it can even be found to be colorless,
yellowish white, greenish white or brown.
  • Gypsum Powder is always translucent. However, you
can even find it to be transparent at times.
  • The density of this powder is 2.3.
