IELTS General Training

• This test is for people who intend to study or
  work where English is the language of
  communication. It measures ability to communicate
  in English across all four language skills
  listening, reading, writing and speaking.
• IELTS is jointly managed by British Council, IDP
  IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge
  ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) through more
  than 350 locations in 120 countries.

Listening Skills

• The IELTS listening module test is divided into
  four sections, each getting more difficult.
  Practice each section of the test with these
  online practice papers based on the
  real exam. You only hear each section one time.
• The time for the test is 40 minutes.
  The listening takes 30 minutes, but you then have
  10 minutes to transfer your answers to an answer
  sheet.

Writing Skills

• The IELTS Writing modules test your ability to
  produce two quite different pieces of writing in
  a fairly short period of time.
• The IELTS writing module varies depending on
  whether you are doing the Academic Test (for
  university applications) or the General
  Test(usually for work / general migration)
• Writing test is 60 minutes long. It has two
  writing tasks of 150 words and 250 words. In Task
  1, candidates are asked to respond to a
  situation, by writing a letter. In Task 2,
  candidates write an essay in response to a point
  of view, argument or problem.

Speaking Skills

• IELTS Speaking is a one-to-one interaction
  between the candidate and an examiner. The three
  parts give the candidate the opportunity to use a
  range of different speaking skills. The test is
  11 to 14 minutes long with three parts.
• IELTS Speaking is recorded. Candidates are
  assessed on their performance throughout
  the test.

Reading Skills

• Reading module test is the second part of the
  IELTS test, and takes 60 minutes. It consists of
  three or sometimes four reading passages of
  increasing difficulty, and there is a total of 40
  questions to answer.
• Though you can mark and write on the Question
  Paper, you must enter your answers on the Reading
  Answer Sheet, and be aware that no extra time is
  given for transferring your answers from the test
  booklet to the Reading Answer Sheet.
