2 What is Reflexology? Reflexology is a type of
pressure point therapy, stimulating reflex areas
in the feet, hands and even ears. The feet have
been mapped in relation to the body and the
reflex points correspond to specific organs,
glands and systems. The goal of reflexology is to
return to or maintain a state of balance within
the body. The principal is similar to
acupuncture (but without needles) and is a
beneficial complement (not substitute) for
medical treatment or overall stress/anxiety
reduction. What can I expect? The first session
begins with a brief, confidential questionnaire
and a discussion to address any individual
questions, concerns, and treatment objectives.
The treatment involves the gentle application of
pressure to the appropriate reflex points. Most
clients experience the pressure as relaxing and
calming. Some clients fall asleep during
treatment, while others remain awake
3Will it hurt? It shouldnt! However, there may be
some areas of tenderness on the foot that are
experienced during a session. Every precaution
will be taken to tend to the sensitivity with
care. Stress reduction, relaxation and improved
circulation are benefits that result from the use
of even gentle to moderate pressure. It is not
necessary to push deeply and cause pain to get
profound results. Does a reflexologist have the
ability to diagnose a specific illness through
the feet? There can be many causes for an
imbalance in the feet, but a reflexologist should
never diagnose a specific condition, unless they
are a licensed, medical doctor. If a non-medical
reflexologist suspects a certain problem, he/she
should always refer the client to a physician or
appropriate health care professional.
4What conditions may be improved from
reflexology? Reflexology has been studied and
reported to assist the body with Arthritis,
Chronic Pain, Cramps, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia,
Hashimotos Disease, Headaches, Heal Pain, Immune
System Support, Insomnia, Stress, and so much
more! How much is a session and what is the
length? A typical treatment lasts about 60
minutes and focuses only on the feet. We do not
offer hand or face reflexology at this time. The
price for a session is 75 or 3 for 150! How is
reflexology different from a foot massage that
costs less? There is a great article from Karen
Ball, N.B.C.R., L.M.T. that does a great job of
explaining this! It all comes down to training,
certification and licensing!
