wall cladding that can be charred on the outward
face. In some regions clad the entire structure
with siding, some are only wainscoting under a
stucco upper wall and some clad up to shadow line
below the roof. The planks can also be burnished
with a propane torch or sent through a furnace
for volume production. The charred wood is left
over as it is or brushed it for more finishing.
This charred wood is completely rot resistant and
flame treatment makes it resistant from fire,
insects, fungus and water. It is beautiful and
long lasting product used for exterior and
interior applications in home and office spaces..
4- Nakamoto Forestry has three main products of
Japanese burnt cedar. These products are finished
to achieve a desired look by brushing and oiling.
These products are
Suyaki
Gendai
Pika-Pika
5Suyaki is traditional and easily recognizable
product and it looks like alligator. It is Pure
Char is known for rot resistance and ultimate
dimensional stability. It is longest wearing due
to the heavily charred surface, can be top-coated
to solidify the surface and reduce soot
dispersion. Suyaki has a stunning and
effervescent shimmer and traditionally is
installed without finish. This product is mostly
used for exteriors.
6Gendai is most commonly used charred wood for
exteriors. The surface of Gendai is start over
with high flame treatment as Suyaki, but brushed
once to solidify the surface and make it dark,
smooth, and silky look. It can be used for both
interior and exterior. Gendai is most commonly
specified of surface in Japan as well as in North
America.
7Pika-Pika also starts with heavy charr, but is
brushed twice to achieve stunning stripe pattern.
The second brushing removes all charring from the
softer spring growth ring, leaving the late wood
as burnt ridges. Products emulating our Pika-Pika
surface often use a light char on the back side
of the board. Pika-Pika takes stains while
retaining the warmth of Yakisugi.
