Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has been ruled
out of Wales crucial World Cup qualifiers
against Georgia and the Republic of Ireland with
a calf strain. Real manager Zinedine Zidane
had played down concerns about Bales

Alvaro Morata suffers grade two hamstring injury
Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata could be out for
more than a month after injuring his hamstring
during Saturdays defeat by Manchester City. The
24-year-old, who joined Chelsea for a club record
60m from Real Madrid, is the clubs top scorer
with seven goals. Spanish team doctors diagnosed
the grade two myofascial injury and he will miss
this weeks World Cup qualifiers against Albania
and Israel.

Dele Alli banned for one England game following
gesture
England midfielder Dele Alli has been banned for
one international match following his
middle-finger gesture during the World Cup
qualifier against Slovakia. The Tottenham player
was also fined 5,000 Swiss francs (3,852) by
Fifa, who says the incident on 4 September was
offensive and unsporting. Alli will miss
Thursdays World Cup qualifier at home to
Slovenia.

Birmingham City appoint Steve Cotterill as new
manager
Birmingham City have appointed Steve Cotterill as
their new manager on a two-and-a-half year
contract. The 53-year-old replaces Harry
Redknapp, who was sacked by Blues earlier this
month after six successive defeats in all
competitions. Ex-Bristol City boss Cotterill
ended last season as Redknapps assistant for the
final three games but turned down the chance to
stay this summer.

Fifa rejects appeal over Leicesters Silva
Fifa has rejected the Football Associations
appeal to rubber-stamp midfielder Adrien Silvas
move to Leicester City from Sporting
Lisbon. Leicester submitted paperwork on Silvas
22m switch 14 seconds too late on the 31 August
transfer deadline. Fifa withheld Silvas
International Transfer Certificate so the Foxes
could not register him to play.
