Introduction
  • Drinking alcohol is a pretty popular social
activity, but not many people know what alcohol
is made of and how its classified. As well as
knowing whats in alcohol, it can be helpful to
find alcohol summery in very short.
  • What is alcohol?
  • Alcohol is one of the most popular
    moodchanging recreational drugs everywhere like
India, USA etc. It can be accessed legally by
people over the age of 18 in bottle shops, pubs,
clubs and bars. The active ingredient in alcohol
is ethanol, a liquid which comes from the
fermentation of starches (like wheat, corn and
    barley).

Types of alcohol
  • Imported
  • Domestic
  • "Imported
  • These generally fell into three broad
    categories...
  • European Pilsners
  • By default, when most people referred to
"imports" back in the '80s or '90s, this was
usually what they meant -- Heineken, Becks,
Lowenbrau, etc. They're basically more pronounced
versions of the style on which American lagers
were based, with more happiness, a little more
    maltiness, etc.
  • British Ales
  • The other general category someone might have
been referring to, if they weren't talking about
Pilsners, were the few British brands that were
widely available -- for the most part, Bass,
Guinness and Harp (outside of the rare specialty
    shop).

  • Asian Lagers
  • Finally, the other type of imported beer that
was generally available were the kinds you
usually only got at Asian restaurants, which also
tend to be similar to pilsners, but often used a
lot more rice and other adjuncts, and so tend to
be pretty crisp and dry -- Sapporo, Tsingtao,
    Singha, Kingfisher,
  • Budweiser Magnum Beer etc.
  • "Domestic"
  • Any one of a number of "microbrews", or the
specific style that was originally based on
Pilsner, but is now referred to as "American
Lager" or "American Light Lager" -- basically,
Bud/Bud Light, Miller/Miller Light, Pabst, Coors,
    Kingfisher Blue Beer etc.
