• Many people charge headlong into the job
  application writing frenzy with little
  consideration really of why they are apply, what
  job they are applying for, what are the
  requirements/skills that organisation wants you
  to have or in fact if you fit the job really at
  all.
• The experienced and considered job application
  writer will not charge like a mad bull into the
  rushes but will rather consider, analyse and
  ponder on many issues before putting pen to paper
  or in fact fingers to keyboards.

• Why is it that job application writers think the
  more jobs they apply for the better chance of
  success? What a lot of nonsense!
• If you keep applying for the wrong jobs or jobs
  where you are under or over qualified people
  writing job applications, where you dont fit the
  job and where the job doesnt fir you it wont
  matter how many thousand applications you prepare
  you wont win the job plain and simple.

• For instance I had a client who badly wanted to
  win a job as a Transport Inspector.
• He has all the skills and qualifications to apply
  but only wanted a job in a specific part of a
  specific city.
• That is his prerogative due to his personal
  requirements and family situation. The location
  the client required the job to be in though meant
  that there would be extremely heavy competition
  from hundreds, maybe thousands of others for that
  job.

• The client then asked if he thought if he applied
  for the same job in a more rural area would he
  have a better chance of success.
• Of course yes he would, given the competition for
  a job in a more rural area would not be as
  intense.
• The client discussed the situation with his wife
  and they agreed that a move was achievable if he
  was successful.

• Certainly if he did win the job there is a good
  possibility if he proves he is a quality operator
  of winning a transfer to his more desired
  location somewhere down the track.
• So location of a job is an important
  consideration for you as a job application
  writer.
• What other issues should you consider as part of
  your job application writing process?

• Well to me you would obviously want to consider
  the possible career path available in the
  advertised position.
• Do you want a career path and the prospect of
  advancement? Are you happy to just sit in the
  same job without the prospects of a potential
  career?
• These questions need to be considered and you
  need to do your due diligence and do some
  research about the position.

• Similarly wouldnt you want to know about the pay
  rate, the working environment, public transport
  access/travelling time to and from work, the
  bonafides of the organisation advertising the
  job, the ethos and goals and objectives of that
  organisation.

• Lets say you are passionate as we should be
  about cheap/child labour and the organisation you
  are applying for the job with doesnt really have
  a process in place to ensure that ethical work
  practise are in place across their supply chain
  wouldnt you want to know that?
• Or you are heavily focused on recycling and
  pollution and the damage to the environment
  would working for a coal mining company really be
  a good fit for you?

• So yes you obviously need to have the experience
  and skills that the prospective employer is
  seeking but there are many many more
  considerations that the smart job application
  writer will factor into their job application
  writing strategy.
