Make Your Brass Pipe Fittings Lead Free!

Step one - Mix the solution

of vinegar in a bowl to get the cleaning
solution. The acidic properties of the hydrogen
peroxide solution have ability to dilute the lead
without damaging the metal. Since hydrogen
peroxide may irritate your skin if comes in
contact, so it is advisable to wear your
protection rubber gloves when mixing and applying
it. Avoid contact with your eyes and quickly wipe
off any spillages.

Step two - Initial application
Take a small brush and use it for applying the
mixture to any hard reach areas to ensure that
the plumbing fitting is as lead-free as possible.
You can even use your old toothbrush. Put the
solution on the brush in generous quantity for
best results. Don't forget to wipe the liquid
away before moving forward to the next step.

Step three - Soak plumbing fitting
Soak the cloth or towel in the solution and wrap
it across the plumbing fitting completely. Set it
for 7 minutes and see if the brass has become
bright-yellow again. If the brass color has
turned into bright yellow, it means lead has been
removed. Don't overdo this step or else your
fitting will turn into blue-green color.

Step four - Wipe the surface
Once the fitting gains bright yellow color, you
can wipe the surface with clean water. Hot water
tends to have more lead and this is why your hot
water faucet will get darker first. This is why
you should avoid drinking water from the hot
