A TIMELINE OF JEWELLERY SYLES AND DESIGNS
2
  • An ultimate expression of luxury, indulgence and
panache, jewellery has been the desire for
mankind since time immemorial. From the era of
the cavemen to the more current times, people
have been known to adorn jewellery. While it may
seem like jewellery is timeless in nature, the
styles and designs undergone continuous change
over the last few decades. The significant
historical changes of different times were
instrumental in the evolution of jewellery.

3
  • If you wish to know the exact period or phase
your beloved style was born, allow us to take you
on a journey or timeline of the evolution of
jewellery, dating from the 50s to the prevailing
    times.

4
  • Ritzy 50s 50s was the time when the women
started to break out of the mould and began
exploring new realms. Jewellery in these times
was a reflection of their independence and
uniqueness. Multi string necklaces, chunky rings
of gemstones and pearls were very popular.

5
  • Frugal 60s This was a time when the focus
shifted from the overly ostentatious to using low
    cost materials. Intricate designs,crumpled and
hammered textures and black and white palettes
were in vogue. Jewellery designs were now seen as
an expression of style and professional
craftsmanship and there was growing fondness for
    handcrafted jewellery.

6
  • The eternal 70s 70s are most revered for the
hippie styles and flamboyant colours. Disco was
the inspiration for almost everything, be it
clothes, aesthetics or jewellery. Larger than
life gemstones and oversized pearls were
everyones was the setting for most things, be it
clothes. Layered jewellery and large dangling ear
    rings were a rage.

7
  • Prodigal 80s The core fashion element of the
80s revolved around being bold and ostentatious.
Huge brooches, large rings and heavy danglers
were ruling the roost. Gold jewellery was still
supreme but people started experimenting with the
coated and imitation jewellery too. Bright and
flashy colours were a reflection of peoples
    mood, which was glitzy.

8
  • Changing 90s If there was one word which
represents the 90s perfectly, it is
transformation. It saw a decline of extravagant
designs and the focus shifted to more graceful
and refined patterns of jewellery. Toe rings,
anklets, hoop earrings, slinky gold bracelets
    were creating waves.

9
  • Contemporary Times- Jewellery designs in the
current era are tasteful and posh. With the
growth of women on the social ladder, their
tastes have shifted to chic and minimalistic
designs. Funky Ear cuffs, midi rings, multi
layered chains, floral motifs, diamond and
coloured stone necklaces are the preferred choice
of the women. The chic and contemporary women
love to embrace the un-identical sides of their
personality and so the trend of mismatched
    earrings etc. are highly popular.
