How To Tell If Your Head Gasket Has Gone?
2
If you think that your head gasket has gone there
are various things you can check for yourself
without taking the car to a mechanic. At a wild
guess the first thing to alert you to the problem
would be the car overheating, this should not
happen and when of the most common causes is the
head gasket.
3
  • So your car has overheated, the next thing to do
would be to check the mirrors to see if you have
a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust.
If so it seems highly likely the head gasket has
    failed.

4
If the car still has water but it is like a mud
coloured sludge or black this could also suggest
that your head gasket has failed.
Check the oil filler cap if there is a white
creamy substance under there that looks like egg
mayo that is a common sign of water and oil
mixing, which would be a head gasket issue.
The pipes from the radiator will always
pressurize if they head gasket has gone, they
will feel rock hard.
5
  • If after you check for all of these you could go
to the mechanics local to you and ask them to
perform a pressure test or a sniffer test. This
will tell you for certain with the head has gone
    or not.

6
  • If the car is not economical to repair it costs
too much money you have a few options to you. You
could try to sell your car for spares or repairs
to someone from the general public, you could
sell it to a motor trader who will repair it and
resell it or you could scrap it.

7
Selling to a motor trader or scrapping it would
be the easiest way to dispose of an old car and
if you are located in central England, we would
be interested in purchasing you car here at
