What is OPT?

• Optional Practical Training is a Program for
  Undergraduate and Graduate International students
  studying on a student visa are permitted to work
  in USA for 12 months their related field of study
  after the near completion of their study in USA.

OPT Eligibility

• Maintaining a valid F-1 Visa
• Registered full-time for at least one academic
  year (three quarters) during study visa.
• Present in the U.S. in valid F-1 status at the
  time of application.
• Twelve months or more of full time CPT makes
  students ineligible for Optional Practical
  Training Jobs - OPT.
• On-campus employment does not count against the
  12-month OPT eligibility

Apply for OPT

• You can apply before you even start looking for
  your position, and up to 90 days before you
  finish school.
• The international office at the college or
  university at which the student is enrolled must
  recommend the student for OPT with a specified
  start and end date (with the total time duration
  requested for OPT being at most one year).
• The approval process for USCIS takes between
  three and four months or it may be vary as
  according to the scenario.

OPT Types

• Practical Training itself is divided into two
  parts
• Pre completion (Before Program End Date)
• Student can do work while pursuing their
  studies. They can work after or  before their
  classes or in the weekends.
• Post completion(After Program End Date) Students
  who have completed degree and requires 20 hours
  working to be considered as OPT.

How to Apply for OPT?

• For applying entry level jobs for opt students
  you need to fill I-765 Form which is Employment
  Authorization Document (EAD). One has to fill EAD
  for work employment.
• One has to submit fee each time one file for an
  EAD. You can pay the fee by a personal check,
  cashier's check, or money order to U.S.
  Department of Homeland Security.

How to Apply for OPT?

• You need to submit copies of your following
  documents
• I-94 Copy
• I-20 Copy
• Passport Copy
• EAD Card copy(if you already have one)
• One also has to submit the OPT Recommendation
  Letter with start and end date issues by their
  respective University or Institute.
• Identical color photographs of you taken within
  30 days of filing your application.
