•  It is basically a WAN. It was developed by the
  ARPA (Advanced Research Project Agency) in 1968
  which is the research arm of department of
  defence(DoD).
• ARPANET used the concept of packet switching
  network.
• In 1974 the TCP/IP model and protocol were
  invented specifically to handle communication
  over internetwork because more and more networks
  were getting connected to ARPANET.
• The TCP/IP made the connection of LANs to
  ARPANET easy.
• The software for ARPANET was split into two parts
  namely subnet and host.
• The subnet was a datagram subnet and each subnet
  consist of mini computers called Interface
  Message Processor(IMP)

• Web today still relies on html,which is
  responsible for describing how information is to
  be displayed and laid out an a web page.
•  The quality of information resources might not
  always be reliable and accurate.
• Internet is definetly not 100 secure
• Searching of information can be very tedious. 
• Developing of complex networks with the
  meaningful content remains difficult.
• Limited to access existing information in a
  standard form.
• Do not have the ability of machine understanding
  and processing of web-based information.

• Fifth generation computing devices,
• based on artificial intelligence,
• are still in development, though there
• are some applications, such as voice
• recognition, that are being used today.
• The use of parallel processing and
  superconductors is helping to make artificial
  intelligence a reality.
•  Quantum computation and molecular
  and nanotechnology will radically change the face
  of computers in years to come.
• The goal of fifth-generation computing is to
  develop devices that respond to natural
  language input and are capable of learning and
  self-organization.
