5 Must-See Festivities
2
  • With so much to see at the 2016 International
Festival of Landscape Architecture, here are our
    recommendations for a street furniture
    experience.

3
1.  Flower Chairs
  • Designed by former UNSW student Joshua Flowers,
three Flower Chair prototypes will feature on the
lawn of the National Gallery of Australia during
the conference. Venture out from Gandell Hall
in session breaks to test this variation on the
movable seat chairs that swivel to your
    preferred viewpoint.

4
  • With a design originally inspired by Google
office furniture, the seat aims to give people a
reason to stop and become involved in public
space. WIN 200 worth of flowers from Interflora
for someone you love. Post a selfie with a Flower
    Chair to facebook.com/streetfurniture for your
chance to win. Winner will be announced shortly
    after the festival.

2.  BackyardExperiment at Garema Place
  • Inspired by the research of William Whyte,
    BackyardExperiment uses time-lapse video to
observe how people interact with public space,
    and movable seats.
  • Visit Garema Place to experience this
community-built pop-up park in person, survey the
60 movable seats and form some hypotheses about
how the space will perform over its 8-day
    installation.

7
  • The time-lapse film will be made available
shortly after the festival, showing how many
people visited the park, how they interacted with
seats and how they really do behave in public
    space.
  • Built by the community for the community, enjoy
free wifi, interactive street art, free wifi,
plenty of movable seats, a pop-up library, pavers
painted by local art students and trees decorated
    by yarn bombers.

8
  • The park is designed by Context and furnished by
Street Furniture Australia, with support from
AILA and In The City Canberra.

9

fountain will flow two nights of the festival
