BCBA stands for Board Certified Behavior
Analyst.  In order to become a BCBA we need to
have administration and assignments that teaches
us the breadth and depth of the field. BCBAs
must have a minimum of a masters degree (and a
Ph.D. to be a BCBA-D) and have a minimum of 1500
hours of supervision and 225 classroom hours of
graduate level coursework in behavior analysis
(BACB, 2014).

About the Designation
The BACB offers a doctoral designation for Board
Certified Behavior Analysts with doctoral
training in behavior analysis Board Certified
Behavior Analyst-DoctoralTM (BCBA-DTM). It is not
a separate credential and it does not grant any
special privileges above or beyond the BCBA
credential. Professionals who are credentialed at
the BCBA-D level function in the same capacity as
a BCBA (i.e., they are independent practitioners
who provide behavior-analytic services).BCBA-Ds
supervise the work of Board Certified Assistant
Behavior Analysts, Registered Behavior
Technicians, and others who provide behavior-analy
tic interventions.

Supervision Options
To become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, a
candidate must complete 1500 hours of supervised
independent fieldwork from a qualified BCBA. To
become a Board Certified assistant Behavior
Analyst, 1000 hours of supervised independent
fieldwork from a qualified BCBA is required.  I
can provide remote supervision or in-person
supervision to those professionals seeking to
become certified. This supervision consists of
watching you work directly with clients (e.g.,
through videotapes, Skype, FaceTime, etc.),
providing you with feedback, providing you with
readings, and providing training on all areas
related to ABA. Our goal within the course of
supervision is to not only prepare candidates to
pass the board certification test, but to become
quality behavior analysts.

Obtaining BCBA Certification
Applicants for BCBA certification must meet one
of the following three options
Option 1 requires an acceptable graduate degree
from an accredited university, completion of
acceptable graduate coursework in behavior
analysis, and a defined period of
supervised practical experience to apply for the
BCBA exam.
Option 2 requires an acceptable graduate degree,
a full-time faculty position in
behavior analysis that includes research and
teaching, and supervised practical experience to
apply for the BCBA exam.
Option 3 requires an acceptable doctoral degree
that was conferred at least 10 years ago and at
least 10 years post-doctoral practical
experience to apply for the BCBA exam.

APPLYING FOR BCBA
The BCBA exam application is completed online
through the BACB Gateway. After completing
an online application, additional required
documents must be mailed to the BACB in one
complete packet. Applicants may pay
the application fee online or choose to mail a
check with their supplemental documents. Once
an application is approved, we will send an
authorization to the test delivery
company, Pearson VUE, allowing the applicant to
schedule an appointment to take the exam.
