STEP ONE
At first open the pocket watch. Now remove the
pallet lever. A pallet lever controls the
balance wheel by first holding and then releasing
it. These are the basics of a watch repairing kit.

STEP TWO
A few puffs of air should be allowed to the
balance wheel. A watch blower can be used for
this purpose. The motion of the balance wheel is
to be examined. Repetition of this process
holding the pocket watch in a few different
positions is to be done until it moves freely and
regularly.

STEP THREE
If the balance wheel does not move freely,
tighten it further. In some cases the balance
wheel gets rubbed up against the underside of the
center wheel. It might also be the case that the
balance wheel is simply wobbly.

STEP FOUR
If the balance wheel still does not work
correctly check for small obstructions. All
loose screws should be tightened if necessary.

STEP FIVE
A loupe can be used to examine the balance
staff. A balance staff holds the balance wheel,
roller table and hairspring. The pivot on the
balance staff should be perfectly shaped and
smooth, with no evidence of scores or lines.

STEP SIX
If the pocket watch is working properly, now
close up the entire watch. And if the problem
still prevails, the balance staff or some other
watch parts supply are to be professionally
replaced.
