• The measure of the rate of which the radio
  frequency or RF energy is absorbed by a living
  body from the measuring source (cell phone in
  this case) is known as SAR or Specific Absorption
  Rate.
• It is a straightforward or direct process to
  measure exposure properties of the RF of cell
  phones so that the mobile phones produced are
  according to the set guidelines.

How is SAR testing carried out?

• During the SAR testing standardized models of the
  human body and the head are filled using RF
  absorption stimulating liquids of various human
  tissues.
• To determine the compliance of each cell phone,
  it is tested at its highest operational level in
  all the frequency bands within which its
  operations are carried out.
• The cell phone is tested in various positions
  against the dummy body and the head to understand
  the effect as different users hold the cell phone
  in different ways, especially to the side of
  head.

• When the cell phone is positioned near different
  common positions next to the body and the head, a
  robotic probe is carried out in which the series
  of electric field measurements at a specific
  location in a precise pattern within the dummy
  body and the head are measured.
• The data thus collected is then submitted for
  final confirmation to ensure that the cell phone
  model is safe for use.
• During the measurement, only the highest values
  of the SAR for every frequency band are mentioned
  within the final authorization document.
