• Civil engineering is top appeared engineering
  branch after mechanical engineering.
• Civil Engineering (CE) is useful for candidates
  who are preparing for GATE CE exam, IES Civil
  Engineering exam, PSU examinations like RRB
  Engineer Recruitment examinations, UPSC and State
  PSC civil/ structural/ highway engineer and
  Architect recruitment examinations and in
  interviews of Private Sector Companies for
  Civil/Structural/ Planning Engineers and
  Architects.

Preparation Strategies for GATE CE

• First thing First Go through the latest
  syllabus of GATE thoroughly, and make a list of
  subjects that you need to concentrate on. Always
  keep a hard copy of syllabus with you.
• Motivation An essential requirement to crack
  any exam. You need to have the confidence that
  you can crack the exam, and you are ready to do
  hard work for that.
• Study Material Dont read too many books from
  different publications always read standard
  books. Some standard publications are Tata
  McGraw-Hill (TMH), Prentice-Hall of India (PHI),
  Wiley etc.

• Coaching If you have enrolled at a coaching
  institute, well and good, and if not, its
  nothing to worry about as there are many good
  Online Preparation Tools available which could be
  used along with Self Preparation.
• Observe Arrange the previous years exam
  papers, and observe the trends in the questions.
  Try to make out the topics which have the maximum
  weight, the topics which are asked frequently,
  the topics which are easier but still have a
  considerable weight, etc.
• Mock Test Series It is an essential part of
  your preparation. To get used to with the
  feelings of the exam, it is essential to join a
  good test series and make sure you attempt a
  sufficient number of tests.

• Time Management Time is considered to be the key
  to success. You must manage your time according
  to your preparation for the exam.
• Revise and Repeat Revise your studies daily. The
  more you revise, the more you memorize and your
  retention power will be increased. In last few
  days, revise only your short notes formula
  notebook mistake of mocks as many times as
  possible.
• Take Care of Yourself Make sure you sleep well
  and eat well. A proper state of body ensures you
  study and grasp well.

Some general tips for your success in GATE Civil
Engineering 2017

• Always start from your favourite subject it will
  boost your confidence.
• For the first 3months go subject wise, never mix
  more than 2subjects.
• Have a clear idea about the question patterns and
  the mark division for each subject.
• First 3 months cover theory and always refer to
  standard text books it will help to increase
  your fundamentals.
• After 3months for the next two months solve as
  many questions as you can.
• Revise the subjects in the next one month.

• Last 1month spend as much time you can for
  solving different model questions, previous year
  GATE questions and other related questions you
  can find or simply take as many full length Mock
  Tests as to gauge your preparation under exam
  like environment.
• Never ever unnecessarily waste time on less
  important things however interesting it may be.
  Try solving more and more questions. If possible
  arrange for study material of some reputed
  coaching institute(s). You can use it for
  practicing questions and getting a clearer view
  of the syllabus.
• Most importantly work insanely hard. If something
  isn't difficult to get then probably it isn't
  worth trying for.
• Always during the course of your preparation be
  in touch with GATE papers and the pattern
  thereof.
