How to fix your garage door opener
  • Looking for a handyman in Bend Oregon? Or
handyman services in Redmond, OR? Believe it or
not, most handymen in Central Oregon are wizards
at garage door repair. But first, before you call
us, lets see if you can fix it by yourself.
Garage door openers are tricky and fixing them
takes a little wit and muscle. Get a ladder and
unplug the unit. This will save you from getting
electrocuted or worse, lose a finger by messing
around. Garage doors are heavy and if the spring
is broke, you will have a harder time lifting it
    up.

How to fix your garage door opener
  • Hopefully, your garage door is closed while
trouble shooting it. Pull the emergency release
handle. If the door is closed, it shouldnt do
anything but just release from the hook. If you
can lift up the garage door with ease and pull it
up and down, then the problem is not with the
track, spring(s) or rollers. Now, if you pull the
release handle while the garage door is in the
lifted up position, the door can come crashing
down so be careful. If that happens, the
    spring(s) is/are broke.

  • Does the wall switch work but the remote doesnt?
Then it is a battery issue, but if the remote
works but the wall switch doesnt, then you will
probably need to replace the wall switch
(button). More than likely, you will not find a
button to replace so in this case, you will have
to get a universal adaptor and most likely it
will be a remote. You can contact the
manufacturer and they may be able to find you a
    replacement button.

  • Does the door go up but only down when you hold
the button? Usually that is an indicator of the
sensors improperly balanced. Usually the sensors
are the first issue. Someone or something knocked
them loose so they dont point to each other.
Turn them towards each other and try again. This
usually fixes most garage door opener problems.
Replacing them isnt easy, however. If one of the
sensors is busted, you will need to contact the
manufacturer for a replacement. There are
replacement part companies but honestly, the odds
of them having what you want is pretty slim.

How to fix your garage door opener
  • Garage door repair is generally simple at first.
The above steps will usually fix the simple
problems. There are other websites that can help
you with DIY garage door opener fix if ours
doesnt solve the problem. Bend doesnt have a
lot of options for repair parts. More than
likely, you will be replacing the entire thing if
you cannot fix anything above what we discussed.
That is why you need a handyman in Central
Oregon. Give us a call if you have any questions
or concerns about your garage door. We would love
to come over and see if we can help!
