INTERNET OF THINGS
  • The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of
    physical objects, devices, vehicles, buildings
and other items which are embedded with
    electronics, software, sensors, and network
connectivity, which enables these objects to
collect and exchange data.  The Internet of
Things allows objects to be sensed and controlled
    remotely across existing network infrastructure,
     creating opportunities for more-direct
integration between the physical world and
computer-based systems, and resulting in improved
efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit when
IoT is augmented with sensors and actuators, the
technology becomes an instance of the more
general class of cyber-physical systems, which
also encompasses technologies such as smart
    grids, smart homes, intelligent
    transportation and smart cities.

HISTORY
  • As of 2013, the vision of the Internet of Things
has evolved due to a convergence of multiple
    technologies, ranging from wireless communication
to the Internet and from embedded
    systems to micro-electromechanical
    systems (MEMS).
  •  The traditional fields of embedded
    systems, wireless sensor networks, control
    systems,automation (including home and building
automation), and others all contribute to
enabling the Internet of Things (IoT).
  • The concept of the Internet of Things first
became popular in 1999, through the Auto-ID
Center at MIT  BY KEVIN ASTONE.
  •  Radio-frequency identification (RFID) was seen
by Kevin Ashton as a prerequisite for the
Internet of Things at that point.

APPLICATION OF INTERNET OF THINGS
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Infrastructure management
  • Manufacturing
  • Energy management
  • Medical and healthcare systems
  • Building and home automation
  • Transportation
  • Large scale deployments

7
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
  • The applications of the IoT typically use sensors
to assist in environmental protection  by
    monitoring air or water quality,
atmospheric or soil conditions  and can even
include areas like monitoring the movements of
wildlife and their habitats. Development of
resource  constrained devices connected to the
Internet also means that other applications
    like earthquake or tsunami early-warning
systems can also be used by emergency services to
provide more effective aid. IoT devices in this
application typically span a large geographic
area and can also be mobile

MEDICAL AND HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS
  • IoT devices can be used to enable remote health
    monitoring and emergency notification systems.
These health monitoring devices can range from
blood pressure and heart rate monitors to
    advanced devices capable of monitoring
specialized implants, such as pacemakers or
    advanced hearing aids.
  • Other consumer devices to encourage healthy
living, such as, connected scales or wearable
heart monitors, are also a possibility with the
    IoT.
  • More and more end-to-end health monitoring IoT
platform are coming up for antenatal and chronic
patients, helping one manage health vitals and
    recurring medication requirements.
  •  Distinct advantages over similar products from
the US and Europe are cost-effectiveness and
    personalization for chronic patients.
  • The concept of living IoT will help in DNA
    ANALYSIS of molecules.

AT ELECTRICAL APPLICATION
  • House color change according to mood . APPLIANCE
    NAME PHILIPS HUE LINESHIP
  • If someone sleep at 10 oclock and switch off
lights at that time for consecutive two days then
automatically from third day light will be closed
    at that time.
  • IoT devices can be used to monitor and control
the mechanical, electrical and electronic systems
used in various types of buildings (e.g., public
    and private, industrial, institutions, or
    residential.
  • Home automation systems, like other building
automation systems, are typically used to control
    lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning,
    appliances, communication systems, entertainment
and home security devices to improve convenience,
    comfort, energy efficiency, and security.

LIMITATIONS
  • Security IOT IS being developed rapidly without
    appropriate consideration of the profound
    security challenges involved
  • Environmental impact A concern regarding IoT
    technologies pertains to the environmental
impacts of the manufacture, use, and eventual
disposal of all these semiconductor-rich devices.
  • Design Given widespread recognition of the
evolving nature of the design and management of
the Internet of Things, sustainable and secure
deployment of Internet of Things solutions must
    design for "anarchic scalability
