Why Train Your Dog?
  • Dogs have their own special needs and natural
instincts. A well trained dog requires fewer
restrictions because the more reliable the dog,
the more freedom he is given. It is important
that we educate ourselves while we teach our dogs
how to fit in to make the best possible situation
for both dog and human. Obedience training is the
most important training for not only ensuring
your dogs safety but also help your dog to
    become more responsive.

Consequences Of An Untrained Dog
  • Untrained dogs are more likely to misbehave which
results in the suffering of others. Dogs if not
trained properly by their owners increases the
chance of dog bites. Here is some statistics on
    dog bites in the U.S
  • 4.5 million U.S residents are bitten by dog bites
    each year
  • Children are the most common victims of dog bites
  • Senior citizens are the second most common
    dog-bite victims
  • Postal delivery people are the third most common
    victims

Positive vs. Negative Reinforcement
  • Positive Reinforcement
  • Positive reinforcement works by presenting a
    motivating/reinforcing stimulus to the animal
after the desired behavior is exhibited, making
the behavior more likely to happen in the future.
  • EX Giving a dog a treat (positive stimulus) when
    they lay down (behavior).

Positive vs. Negative Reinforcement
  • Negative Reinforcement
  • Negative reinforcement occurs when a certain
stimulus is removed after a particular behavior
    is exhibited.
  • EX Blowing an air horn (negative stimulus) until
    a dog lays down (behavior).

Dog Training Tips
  • Go for a walk before you start your training
    session
  • Have plenty of treats
  • Focus on learning one thing at a time
  • Train in short, 5-10 minute spurts because dogs
    get bored very easily
  • Keep your dogs attention on you at all times
    during the training session
  • Teach basic commands first, like sit or lay down
  • Reward with lots of praise
  • Have lots of love
  • Have fun and repeat the process
