  • With good dental care and a regular dental
routine, a dental crown can last for many years.
However, just like the natural teeth, there are
many factors that can cause undue pressure on a
dental crown, eventually resulting in a cracked
crown or with damages to a point where a
    replacement crown in needed.

Common causes of cracked, damaged crowns,
expressed by the Dubai dentistry and how to avoid
them.
  • Injury  An injury to the mouth or face, which
involves a traumatic blow or fall, may cause a
dental crown to crack or become heavily damaged.
Of course, these sorts of injuries are impossible
to prevent. However, precautions can be taken to
ensure that the teeth and dental crowns are
protected. Patients who are involved in sports or
other physical activities that carry a threat of
injury, should wear a custom sports mouth guard
to protect the teeth in the case of a fall or
    other injury.

them
  • Teeth grinding or clenching  Teeth grinding and
clenching also referred to as Bruxism, puts an
excess amount of pressure on the teeth. With the
teeth constantly pressing or grinding against
each other, there could be a lot of damage that
could occur. Dental crowns are not meant to
withstand these habits and can easily become
damaged. Often, grinding and clenching happens at
night, and if the patient is unable to control
these habits through relaxation methods, a mouth
guard should be would worn at night to protect
the teeth from these damaging habits.

  • Excessive wear and tear  Other habits, aside
from clenching and grinding, that puts undue
pressure on the teeth include, nail biting,
phobias eating various hard material and eating
hard candy. The best way to protect dental crowns
from chipping and other damage is to avoid these
habits and limit the intake of food that could
put too much force on teeth and crowns.

  • Poor dental health  Although a dental crown is
meant to protect the natural tooth, plaque and
tartar can build up around the surrounding gum
line, and may work its way down to the tooth.
The dental clinics in Dubai explains that if gum
disease develops, the dental crown may not have
any damage, but it will need to be removed to
    treat the teeth and gums.
