HARD HATS ARE ESSENTIAL Hard hats are an
essential piece of personal protective equipment
in a construction zone. When worn properly, they
can protect against bumps to the head from fixed
or falling objects and can protect your head from
making accidental contact with electrical
hazards.

proper gloves for the work youre doing. For
example, heavy-duty rubber gloves are best for
concrete work. Choose welding gloves to protect
yourself from heat and sparks. Insulated gloves
with sleeves are the best choice when exposed to
electrical hazards. Always wear gloves snugly
to ensure maximum protection.

GEAR Eye and face protection should be selected
based on the anticipated hazards in your work.
For example, safety glasses or face shields are a
good choice for work operations in which foreign

cutting, grinding, etc.). Theyre also a good
choice for work involving harmful chemicals or
airborne particles.

harmful chemicals and airborne particles.

FOOT PROTECTION IS MORE THAN JUST
COMFORT Construction workers should always wear
work shoes or boots with slip resistant and
puncture resistant soles. If you work in an
environment with heavy equipment or if youre at
risk for being hit by a falling object, its also
a good idea to wear safety-toed (e.g. steel
tipped) booths to prevent crushed toes.
