HOW TO CHOOSE SUITABLE TOPIC?
  • In order to select the best topic for you, it is
needed that you refine it until its ready.
  • First, you need to think of a history area that
    you are interested in.
  • Remember if you are not interested in writing
this paper, no one will be interested in reading
    it, either.
  • For example, lets suppose you have selected the
WWII. This is a very broad topic which needs to
    be narrowed.

3
HOW TO CHOOSE SUITABLE TOPIC?
  • Lets proceed with breaking down the topic and
identifying possible themes until you selected
    the interesting one.
  • Perhaps you are interested in the causes of WWII?
Some political or military leaders involved in
    the conflict?
  • Or maybe you want to describe some battle? As you
see, there are lots of possible topics to be
    extracted form one topic area.
  • So continue brainstorming until you think that
you have selected the one for your paper.

4
But I Cannot Find Any Relevant Material On My
Topic
  • If you selected a topic, this does not mean that
you should immediately write about it.
  • Spend some time researching it to know whether
there is considerable amount of available
literature to include in your paper.
  • Ask your librarian for help as well. As you
review the books on the topic, you may find
useful literature in the footnotes and
    references.
  • Lots of helpful information can be found online
    as well.

5
HOW DO I PUT ALL THIS TOGETHER?
6
A. Outline
  • Think about possible preliminary thesis
    statements.
  • Pick up the one that expresses your own opinion
and make a structure according to your selection.
  • It is recommended not to get too detailed in the
    outline.

7
B. The First Draft
  • Begin writing your paper using your outline and
information that you gathered. Continue writing
and do not worry if there are some gaps in your
    research.
  • It will be much easier to fill them as you write
the final draft. Experienced writers suggest not
    to start with an introduction.
  • Save it for later and write the body. In the end,
you will be inspired and your introduction will
be written in the matter of minutes.

8
C. The Second Draft
  • This middle draft is often called a heart of the
writing process for any papers. It is recommended
to leave your first draft unattended for a day
and then come back fresh. Read your paper as
someone elses and use your criticism to improve
    the content.
  • Do not be discouraged if you think that your work
needs changes. Even experienced writers do this
and revise works several times. At this point it
is also recommended to check the clarity of your
main points and their relation with the thesis
    statement.

9
B. The Third Draft (The Final One)
  • All that is left to do is revise the work in
terms of style and rules of academic writing.
  • See whether you used appropriate words and
    sentence structures.
  • Make sure you have not repeated yourself and make
    transitions smooth and logical.
