For ages, slate stones have been used to create
beautiful slopes and thatching on the roofs.
Using Indian slate stone tiles for roofing is
more popular in the western countries than in the
country of its origin. The most vibrant shades
from Indian slate stone family used for roofing
are invariably mottled and spotted
varieties. Here are top 6 roofing slate stones
that you should know about.
3
1 Sea Green
Also called the Grey Green, this roofing stone
variety is one of the oldest known building
materials in the world. It is manufactured in
abundance and has a wide-scale commercial base
ranging from Far East to Las Vegas. It has buff
brown appeal when quarried from the mines. Slight
weathering renders it the trademark sea green
appearance. There are over 100 known quarries
producing the Sea Green slate stone, but only
Indian quarries are considered as the most
authenticate ones. You might find this variety
being sold as Semi-weathered Grey slate stone.

2 Dappling Purple
Also called as the spotty purple slate stone, it
is a traditional grey variety. It is considered
to be one of the most commercially viable Indian
slate stone tiles by virtue of its colour
consistency, hardness, smoothness and clarity. It
exhibits swirls and twirling along the edges.
Black marks are visible in slates from the newer
deposits. It has also weathered appearance and
can be smoothened as per requirement. Dappling
Purple is used for roofing buildings on the hills
and plains, where the sunlight creates a magical
effect. They dont reflect much and hence look
attractive.

3 Mottled Green and Purple
Unique and regale, Mottled Green and Purple slate
stone has a variable colour appearance. It has
green spots and markings over purple base. It is
also smoothened before being sold in the market.
The buffing is done to clear the stone off its
markings. They have a waxy smoothness which makes
them slightly costlier than other slates. Cheaper
alternatives are sold as Light Mottle Green
Purple slates and Reverse Mottle slates.

4 Unfading Grey
It is a unique medium-texture Indian slate stone
tile with black markings. It shows a lot of buff
and brown etchings. Light gray slate stones dont
require any kind of buffing or weathering.
Unfading grey is one of the most affordable and
yet a durable package in the entire natural stone
collection offered by the Indian suppliers.

5 Strata Grey
Known as the Zebra slate, this Indian natural
stone variety has black stripes running
diagonally across the surface. It is commercially
sold as Mottled Black Grey. Heavily textured to
match the roofing ideas, the Strata Grey has
brown weathering with thickness ranging from 0.25
inches to 2 inches. Price varies depending on the
gradient of the stripes.

6 Peach red
It is the brightest slate stone variety in the
family of roofing materials. Dense and hard, the
physical properties of this stone remain
invincible to date. It is a dry stone with
slightly brittle nature. Owing to the brittle
nature, it requires additional machining.
It is easily the costliest Indian slate stone
tile used for roofing.
