Title: Wine tasting options for the newcomer
1- Wine tasting options for the newcomer
- Tasting etiquette
- Wine tasting is personal and everyone has their
preferences. What you may experience as far as
taste and smell in a particular bottle of wine is
probably different from the next person. The
winery offering wine tasting understands this.
They also know that people have their preferences
when it comes to how they taste wine. Still, the
techniques for the wine tasting experience is
rather uniform. Consider the are the following - Swirl the wine in the glass for a few seconds to
allow oxygen to enter the wine. No matter how
you swirl the wine, your technique is completing
an important next step in the tasting process
getting more oxygen into the wine. as soon as a
wine encounters oxygen, it gives off its aromas
and also softens, allowing you to take in the
full essence of the wine. - Hold the glass by the stem. Your wine is served
at the perfect temperature, holding the bowl in
your hands can warm up the wine and have a
negative effect on its taste. - Stick your nose in the glass and inhale the
aromas. Remember, you cannot taste what you - cannot smell.
- Take a sip and let it sit in your mouth for a few
seconds to absorb the flavor. Some people
actually chew the wine, which enhances the
flavors. - You can choose to swallow it, or spit into the
spittoon on the counter. Both options are - acceptable. There is no high fashion technique
here, just grab that bucket and spit it out. If
you are a novice when it comes to wine tasting,
that is all you need to know to get started.
Spitting allows you to ample a greater number of
wines without it going to your head. If you do
not want to finish the glass, it is perfectly
acceptable to dump the remainder of the glass in
the bucket. - Walk around tasting
- Beyond the tasting room, there is Walk Around
Tasting. This is a combination of a winery tour,
and - a tasting. Typically, the host brings several
bottles of wine on your tour. Perhaps you will
all be lead to a garden area of the winery to
sample the first round. Then you will continue on
to another place in the winery to taste the next
wine. This walking tour continues until all the
wine has been tasted. - Barrel Tasting
- Barrel tasting is a unique experience that can
also be part of a tour. This usually occurs where
